Dear Mom,
I hope this letter finds you in the loving embrace of eternity. I wanted to share a story that connects your home in Alabama to my life here in Maryland, and how it's inspired me to take a stand in the fight against Alzheimer's.
You raised seven children in Birmingham, Alabama, with unyielding strength and love. You instilled values of family, compassion, and resilience in us. In your later years, as Alzheimer's clouded your memories, the remarkable thing was that you never forgot your children's names. It's a testament to the profound bond of a mother's love.
Today, I'm the Chairman of Charles County, Maryland, and a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. These roles have allowed me to forge connections between Alabama and Maryland in the fight against Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® is a significant part of our mission. The alarming fact is that over 5 million Americans currently battle Alzheimer's, and this number is projected to surge to 16 million by 2050 if we don't act.
In your honor, I'm leading the way to finding Alzheimer's first survivor, for you, for countless others, and for the future. I've founded "Team Purple Rain," an extension of Kemit Group LLC, to support the cause. We believe in the power of community, of unity, and of shared effort.
Through our collective strength and determination, we aim to change the course of this disease and ultimately end Alzheimer's. I invite you, from wherever you are, to join us in this vital mission. Your spirit and legacy continue to inspire us.
With heartfelt gratitude for the love you've given and the lessons you've taught, Mom, we'll keep marching forward to honor your memory.
Your Son,
Joel
